The World Headache Alliance (WHA) was founded in 1997 to improve the lives of people with headache and Migraine all around the world. By sharing information among existing headache organizations, and by fostering the development of new headache organizations in areas where none currently exist, the Alliance seeks to increase the awareness and understanding of headache, Migraine, and head-pain as a public health concern with profound social and economic impact.

To date, thirty-nine lay organizations from twenty-four countries have come together to form this unprecedented global co-operative. WHA proudly liaises with the International Headache Society (IHS) in the fundamental belief in the importance of strengthening the patient-physician partnership. The organization is governed by a Council of nine people with more than 100 cumulative years of affiliation with headache organizations!

Having just launched the WHAT! website (http://www.w-h-a.org), WHA is poised to embark on other exciting ventures such as workshops, conferences, publications, and the first-ever global awareness event.

Established headache organizations concerned with the same objects as WHA whose membership is substantially lay are invited to apply for membership.
